Designed by Google's Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group, Project Vault is an encrypted computer on a simple microSD card.
Google has announced its Project Vault at Google I/O developers conference . Project Vault is an encrypted computer in the form of a simple microSD card. It is compatible with any device which supports microSD cards. Designed by Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group, when connected, Project Vault secures all form of communication happening from that device.
It looks just like any other microSD card, however, the Vault is powered by an ARM processor running secure RTOS operating system. It comes with NFC, an antenna, 4GB of ‘sealed’ internal storage and a suite of cryptographic services. It enables secure communication between two Vault protected devices. It can encrypt messages and provide added levels of authentication. This chip can basically convert your device into a password itself and is capable of authenticating you before any particular online service even asks for your password.
The Vault can integrate very easily as it is acts as a generic storage unit with a standard file system- read and write. Google has released the open source development kit and has come up wihe an enterprise-targeted first version of the Vault.
